Inspired by the hinterland
A family business from the heart of Maleny, Queensland
Our story,
from the beginning
Susan’s Story
Our story began in 2004 when I was looking for a healthier option to paraffin candles.
As most candles were made with paraffin wax I decided to make my own which started me on this delightful journey all those years ago. Finally, I purchased some soy wax, a few fragrances, and along with a lot of research, Lights of Eden was born.
My husband and I moved to my birthplace in the UK in 2006. Whilst in the UK I was able to experience many different fragrance and ideas that were not obvious back in Australia. This amalgamation of both regions, lead us to where we are today with Lights of Eden.
On our return to Australia, I had a clear vision and decided to recommence my candle making and started to sell them locally within the local community.
Finally in 2020, with the support of my family and friends who believed in my product, I opened to the public initially in the shed on my property before moving to the main street in Maleny.
In 2024 I then succeeded the business to my son and daughter to embark on the next generation of candle making. This lead to a second store opening in the inner city suburb of Albion bringing the sunshine coast fragrances of bush to beach – to the city.
I hope you love the fragrances as much as I do.

Frequently asked
questions
Why choose coconut soy wax candles over paraffin?
Coconut soy wax candles are a natural option that burns cleaner and longer than paraffin candles, paraffin wax is derived from petroleum, coal, or shale oil, it has been found to have cancer-causing agents such as benzene. Â
Our coconut soy wax candles are made with environmentally friendly products including a pure cotton wick.
How do I look after my candle?
On the very first burn of your candle, burn the candle all the way to the edge of the jar, this then creates a memory, which means when you burn the candle for a 2nd time and onwards you will avoid any tunnelling.
After the initial first burn, and to ensure a clean and even burn we recommend you cut the wick to about 5mm before each burn.
How long should you burn a candle for?
We recommend burning our candles for no longer than 4 hours at a time.
This will reduce the risk of black soot coming off the flame and could reduce black residue being left around the rim of the jar.
How do reed diffusers work?
There are three parts to a reed diffuser – a vessel, reeds, and the oil.
The reeds are porous with microscopic channels that soak up the oil and push it up through the reeds. Once it gets to the top the scent is emitted, developing a lovely atmosphere so that you can relax. Â
We use plant based diffuser oil which has no alcohol or (VOC’s) volatile organic compounds which are a large group of chemicals that can easily evaporate into the air.Â
Reed diffusers are a no flame, add the reeds to the fragrance oil and the rest takes care of itself and you have a beautiful smelling area of your home.
How long does each candle and reed diffuser last?
Our Medium candles have a burn time of 30 hours.
Our Large candles have a burn time of 48 hours.
Our Tealights have a burn time of 4 hours.
Our Reed diffusers have a minimum of 9 months smell time, however you must continue to turn the reeds regularly.
